 C mount possible? 11 Jan 2006 03:54  # 1

Hello,

I\'m using industrial cameras with 1/3 and 2/3 inch single cmos sensors. If want to use your converter with my cameras but I dunno how it should be done. If I understand correctly, I still need a C mount lens on the camera and a thread converter from m27 etc to one of the thread sizes that you support.

1) Is there any problem with 2/3 inch sensors? What is the distance of the projected image on the groundglass and what is the size of it? Is it 43mm diameter image circle? I read somewhere on this site that the gg distance can be fine tuned. If I have this info, I can see what kind of c mount lens will be able to focus there properly and fill the full frame of my cameras.

2) A question for industrial but also any camcorder. When using your converter, does the camera have to stay fixed at all its settings, focus distance, iris setting, zoom setting? In a set and forget way? Is the camera lens competely disabled when using a DOF adapter? Autofocus not possible and all that? So I have to use the new Canon EF lens to set zoom, focus, iris? Or can I also change the camera iris settings? Any sideffects? Also, is light measuring through the lens changed in any way (expect darkening)? Will auto exposure (shutter/gain) work or I have to rely on manual settings again?

Btw, if the grain is static, it can be removed on batch without artifacts. In the uncompressed video I use at least. DV should code it so that more artifacts will be introduced when removing it.

Thanks:)

It does not really matter what kind of lenses you are using on your camera, because Indie35 mounts onto the filter thread of your camera lens and our lens mounts come pretty much in all sizes.

The sensor size on your camera has no effect on the performance or usage of Indie35. All you need is a lens (on the camera) that is able to focus on a target 75mm from the lens.

The imaging area of Indie35 is 46mm in diameter and the flange distance can be freely adjusted by the user.

The camera & camera lens settings such as focus & zoom must stay fixed while using Indie35. All the other adjustable parameters (iris, white balance etc) can still be used.

Besides the iris adjustment (which should be kept open for best performance), the camera lens setting should be fixed. Autofocus is not recommended.

You should use the Canon lens for zoom, focus & iris. Closing down the camera lens iris might introduce grain, so if possible, keep the camera lens wide open.

There is some loss of light inside Indie35. Auto exposure on camera has worked fine in our tests, given that autofocus is turned off.

Isn\'t a 75mm minimum focus distance a little close? My Canon XL2 cannot do that and none of my c mount lenses can do that. Many cameras need 100-150mm. Is the 75mm distance fixed?

Canon XL2 has 20mm MFD according to datasheets and manuals. You always have to Zoom in a little bit and this makes MFD a bit longer - letīs say to 60mm.

I would say 90% camcorders have MFD less than 75mm or more than 750mm(75cm). If camera has MFD more than 75mm but less than 200mm then You can order LensMount/OD: http://www.indie35.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,47/category_id,4/option,com_phpshop/Itemid,18/. Under LensMount/OD we produce custom camera mounts.(actually we do any possible machinery for optics under that product name). Just send us the specification of your custom product and we will make you price offer.

No, it is not. Flexibility is an advantage of Indie35. You can adjust almost all settings, including the distance to GGSS. The distance can be adjusted between 25mm- 75mm with standard CamMount.
